logo & print collateral

  • (The Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center is a museum – located in Joseph, Oregon – that’s dedicated to sharing the history of Oregon’s early logging community of Maxville, Oregon, and similar communities in the greater Pacific Northwest.)

Redesign their logo and some print collateral, along with a timeline for the upper part of the walls in the museum center. Work alongside another graphic designer, illustrator, and a team of interior designers to create a concept and pitch.

    • Consider the demographic of visitors

    • Tie back to the history and heritage of Maxville

  • I researched the region and history of Maxville and made some initial logo sketches based on the significance of railroads, Ponderosa pine trees, and two-man saws to communicate the story of Maxville. The client resonated with the railroad direction as well as the saw tooth direction, so I made further digital sketches and variations of both concepts. Of the two options presented, the client ultimately went with the saw tooth option – when looking at the teeth of a two-man saw, I noticed that an ‘M’ shape could be found in it, so I subtly integrated the sawtooth form into the apex and legs of the M. The final logo consists of two primary logos (one with a wood round holding shape), a secondary logo, and a logomark. In addition to the logos, I also helped choose the brand colors and typography, and I developed a variety of print collateral such as a business card, postcard, and poster detailing the collaboration between Maxville Heritage and my design class. For the timeline, I made sure to make the years bold and large for readability, and I added a train track behind the dates & descriptions to add visual interest and help lead visitors from one year to the next on the journey of Maxville’s history.
