Create the visual identity for AIGA Portland’s 2025 Mentorship Program. The design should communicate “Connection, Community, Design, Mentorship, Inclusivity, and All of Oregon- not PDX specific”.

• Format design for various uses: AIGA Portand's website, LinkedIn, & social media

• Design a printable poster to be displayed across university campuses

• Provide variations or colorways to avoid fatigue / capture interest

The concept/theme around the graphics is a bridge – communicating the connection that is made between mentor and mentee, and how the Mentorship program "bridges the gap" between established industry professionals and students. To reference Portland, I pulled imagery of the iconic St John’s Bridge from the Portland Archives. In the first round, I presented two concepts, both depicting the St John’s Bridge. Concept 1 resembled a vintage scrapbook collage in its layering and typography treatment, yet was modernized in its use of bright colors. Concept 2 took a more simple and illustrative approach accompanied also by bold color choices.

After review from the committee, Concept 1 was chosen with feedback to give it more depth, meaning, and visual hierarchy through adding more emphasis to the program name, providing variety to the CTA, and adding to the bridge metaphor with an unusual juxtaposition of unexpected graphics. In the following rounds and concepts I played with the idea of metamorphosis and growth through butterflies, as well as incorporating more graphic elements. 

Taking all of the feedback and suggestions, the final chosen concept utilizes the original bridge concept, this time with the bridge half illustrated + half scanned torn photo, geometric/abstract symbols & arrows, and hexagons resembling honeycomb to subtle reference community.
