yummy sponge bakery & cafe

logo, branding, icons, & pattern

  • Develop a logo and branding for a startup bakery and cafe shop in Kigali, Rwanda.

    • Design a logo that appeals to a wide audience

    • Design a logo that is adjustable for two different stores under
the same business name (a bakery & a cafe)

  • I was reached out to by a friend of a friend to help design a logo for a bakery and cafe. After the client completed a questionnaire to uncover what they want & need, I began gathering inspo and exploring what type of branding would be suitable for the client and location. The client initially wanted the logo to incorporate a wheat motif, coffee beans, and/or a figure, like Starbucks. I tested out a variety of logos consisting of a hybrid of these elements, but decided to also throw in the imagery of a cake because of the business’ name. The client liked this option the best, and the final logo consists of a cake with a ‘wavey split’ referencing the split in a coffee bean, and the icing on the cake vaguely resembles the wheat form. The ‘wavey split’ attribute was also able to be applied to a mug logo for the cafe part of the business. The result is a logo that is adaptable, iconic, and approachable. In addition to the logo, I crafted a color palette, icons, and a pattern for the client.
